Galway Preservation Society

May 2025

~Carol Schweizer

At the April meeting, Rachel Clothier, historian for the Town of Corinth, gave an

interesting program on the agricultural history of Corinth. She had wonderful

photographs as part of her program.

The nominating committee, chaired by Arlene Rhodes, will present the following

slate of officers to be voted on at the May Meeting:

President, Colleen Germond; V. President, Jon Hallgren; Secretary, Teri Pudney;

Board Member, Ralph Denison, for a three-year term; Board Member, Bruce

Sanders, for a one-year to finish the term of Jon Hallgren. There will be a business

meeting to elect officers beginning at 7:00pm.

Linda Bobar will be circulating a sign-up sheet at the May meeting for the annual

June picnic. The picnic will be held at the Town Hall on June 2 at 6:00pm. If you

wish to attend the picnic, you may sign up to bring a pot-luck dish to share at the

May meeting or call Linda Bobar at 518-705-6254. There will be a program after

the picnic.

The speaker for the May meeting will be David Brooks. His topic will be “A Crossing

Situation.” This program explains how Schoharie Creek was an impediment to the

Erie Canal before the artificial river opened and how Erie Canal engineers and

builders determined how to cross the waters of the Schoharie from the earliest

dam to the incredible John B. Jervis designed Schoharie Creek Aqueduct and what

that meant for the success of the Erie Canal.

Hope to see you there.
